What people are saying about The Nest
“The staff at THE NEST were nothing short of phenomenal! They took the time to listen to all of our questions and concerns throughout the entire pregnancy, I never felt rushed on any visit, and they made the experience so special for my whole family. They are friendly, professional, and super helpful. I've never had better or more personal care from a healthcare team. I recommend them to anyone who is wanting to have a great natural birth experience!” – Callie Warner
“Lisa and Patty are the dream team. I can not imagine having done this with out them. They have the perfect balance of love and wisdom. I always felt that they were there when we needed them and providing thorough answers to our questions. As the male,I was fairly concerned that I did not have what it was going to take to support my wife through this birth. Lisa and Patty were amazing at supporting me as I tried my best to support my wife. We are so grateful for these ladies. We look forward do doing it again with child #2!” – Dillon Haspany
“As a father, I felt removed from the pregnancy and birth process until we hired Lisa Riell. She took the time to include me, teach me about birth, and how I could help my wife during labor. I was so glad to get to contribute to my wife’s comfort and understand the whole process. I went from dread to excitement. Her spirit and knowledge embodies everything a midwife should be.” – Jacob Mitchell
Lisa and the whole team at The Nest are absolutely phenomenal. I had an incredible birth experience and am so thankful for the amazing care I received! I chose to have a home birth but the birth center is beautiful, welcoming, and peaceful- the perfect environment to welcome your blessing. Lisa and her team truly have a heart for every woman and family who comes through their doors. It’s evident by the care they give so openhandedly! I highly recommend The Nest to anyone considering a birth center or home birth. You will be treated with love, respect, and like the life-giving goddess you are!” – Andrea Muehlen
Meet the Midwives
I believe in “mothering the mother”!
- In a healthy woman, pregnancy is not a medical condition; it is a normal physiological body function. Most healthy women can enjoy birth out of the hospital.
- Birth can be the most transformative, empowering moment of you and your partner’s lives.
- Unnecessary interventions can interfere with the primal birthing instinct, altering important emotional and physical aspects of your birth. They can stall, complicate and necessitate further interventions, spiraling into an unwanted C-section. Unnecessary or disrespectful interventions can also create lasting emotional trauma for mother and baby.
- I believe in easing your little one into this world, into a quiet, loving, respectful environment.
As a young girl, my favorite toy was my nurse’s kit. I was fascinated by birth and wanted to help women deliver their babies. I can remember, at nine yrs old, wishing my mother’s pregnant friends would go into labor at our house so I could deliver that baby! And, even at that tender age, I was confident I could do it, and make the experience calm and supportive for the mother!
Years later I married and had 3 children of my own, giving birth naturally using the traditional Lamaze method in a hospital. This transformed me, progressively reigniting my passion to help other women with each birth. I acted as doula occasionally through the years, still pulled by birth, but focused at the time on raising my family, and other career choices. Finally, pursuing midwifery after my children left “the nest” was the realization of a life-long dream.
Every birth fills me with joy, wonder and gratitude. I am humbled and honored to be called into this incredible profession.
I’m a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife), LM (licensed in the State Of Texas), NNR and CPR trained every 2yrs, and continue to learn with CEU’s, conferences, workshops, avid reader and birth junkie!
My passion for birth began as a child, fostered by my being the oldest of seven children. It wasn’t until after the births of my own three children that I began exploring the culture of birth in America. Seeing all the options available to women today I was particularly moved by the Midwifery Model of Care. I started apprenticing with several area midwives providing me with a whole spectrum of experience to draw upon within my own practice.
I have been assisting women to safely deliver their babies in the comfort of the home, or birth center, since 1997. Natural childbirth promotes a healthy baby, a healthy mother, and an immediate bonding experience for the entire family. My holistic approach to midwifery care stems from the belief that pregnancy is a natural state of health. This belief has been reinforced by the 1000+ births I have attended throughout the years.
I have been married to my best friend for the last 17 years and we have three beautiful children.

I have always felt called from the Lord to support and serve others and I believe that He has led me to this path. After serving families as a Birth and Bereavement Doula, a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, and a Breastfeeding Educator since 2014, I began taking the steps towards Midwifery in September 2017, beginning an apprenticeship with my own midwife, and then beginning school in 2018. I have been blessed to apprentice with Lisa Riell and serve clients as a student midwife at the Nest since January 2019.
I am passionate about holistic care for women and babies and I believe that an empowering birth experience builds women up to be empowered mothers throughout their children’s lives. My goal is to complete my apprenticeship and academics to become a licensed midwife by 2021!
